HEALTHCARE: Opus Health Achieves Cyber Essentials

Quick facts

SECTOR: Healthcare
CLIENT: Opus Health
LOCATION: London
REQUIREMENT: Peace of mind for the business and assurance for its clients

‘Cyber Essentials is a great start for cyber security and in preparation for the GDPR. Dan and the team at Assign-IT has been extremely helpful throughout the process and are now working with me to prepare for the GDPR. Assign-IT is a very honest, responsive and knowledgeable business. I know I wouldn’t have achieved it in our time scales without their drive and experience.’

Digital Efficiency in the Healthcare Market

Opus Health Ltd provides independent occupational health advice and support to clients from a range of business sectors and sizes. Services cover employment health, health surveillance, health promotion and sickness & absence.

Opus Health is owned by Henri Vale, an Occupational Health Practitioner with over 22 years’ experience in providing occupational health services. Henri always looks to technology to help the business deliver an efficient and effective service. Embracing digital solutions means greater mobility and better access to information for Henri and her team; enabling Practitioners to go out to meet clients and patients with all the right up-to-date information they need to hand – anytime, anywhere.

Data & IT Security Aware

Holding patient information and with its mobile working culture, Henri is always conscious of the amount of sensitive data the business holds. Whilst the business makes sure it controls all Internet connected devices (company and own devices such as laptops, mobile phones and tablets) that access the company systems and is already committed to the Data Protection Act (DPA); Henri is aware that more can always be done, is keen to maintain a paramount service and a high-level of security.

Unfortunately, holding Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as names, addresses, health insurance details and often financial information makes Opus Health a prime candidate for attackers. Attackers can use this type of data to execute identity fraud and other financial crimes.

Finding the Right IT Security Company

Henri explains,

‘I am always conscious of keeping data safe, especially with the sensitive nature of our work. I want to make sure we are proactive in protecting our business and whilst I am knowledgeable on clinical health, I know I need to engage experts that I can trust to protect my IT and the business.’

When Assign-IT announced that it had gained its own IT security accreditations and achieved its position as a certification body, Henri knew this was something Opus Health also needed to achieve.

Dan Creedon, Assign-IT’s Technical & Security Architect met with Henri to discuss the options available and provided recommendations in order for the business to achieve the Cyber Essentials certification. He explains,

‘Whilst I was sure that Cyber Essentials was the right certification for Opus Health, I wanted to make sure that Henri was aware of all options and comfortable with the recommendations.’

Cyber Essentials Certification

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed cyber security certification that sets out best practices for implementing cyber security. Supported by the ICO (Information Commissioners Office which implemented the DPA), it is widely recognised in the UK and satisfies the requirements for clinical governance. This scheme addresses fundamental controls that help protect businesses against ever-increasing cyber-attacks.

Henri explains,

‘I have found this an extremely interesting project and have really enjoyed the process with the support of Assign-IT.  They have managed much of it for me so that I have been able to balance it with our day-to-day activities. They involved me at the key stages to ensure that I understood the process, the key controls and the enhancements we needed to make. I found that Assign-IT really understands security and is someone I trust to help keep my business and its data safe.’

Preparing for the GDPR

It is a great accomplishment to complete the Cyber Essentials, but Henri is also aware that IT security is an evolving issue. Cyber Essentials also helps businesses to address other compliance requirements that are coming into effect in 2018; the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Henri wants to make sure that Opus Health is fully compliant by the time this comes into effect.

Henri confirms,

‘Cyber Essentials is a great start for cyber security and in preparation for the GDPR. Dan and the team at Assign-IT has been extremely helpful throughout the process and are now working with me to prepare for the GDPR. Assign-IT is a very honest, responsive and knowledgeable business. I know I wouldn’t have achieved it in our time scales without their drive and experience.’

Dan concludes,

‘I am really pleased that Opus Health has successfully obtained Cyber Essentials. This is a great way to demonstrate their commitment to cyber security best practice and I know they now have a better understanding of how to protect themselves from cyber-crime.’
