LOCAL ASSOCIATION: St Albans Chamber of Commerce achieves Cyber Essentials

Quick facts

SECTOR: Local Association
CLIENT: St Albans Chamber of Commerce
LOCATION: St Albans, Hertfordshire
REQUIREMENT: Cyber security

‘I feel better informed and in a stronger position to talk to our members about Cyber Essentials if they decide this is a route they want to take. I recommend it; with Assign-IT helping us through the process, it was a seamless experience; giving us great satisfaction and assurance when we achieved this security certification.’

The St Albans Chamber of Commerce has been spearheading the campaign to build business awareness about the threat of cyber attacks to its members over the last year, often joining forces with other local chambers to run educational seminars.

Assign-IT was involved in one of the first events in which both the Technical Director, Darren Fieldhouse and Commercial Director, David Privett explained about the risks to businesses, demonstrated the types of attacks happening currently and some solutions to strengthening IT security for organisations.

This was something that really resonated with Lisa Bates, Executive Director for the Chamber of Commerce. Lisa explains,

‘The seminar was an eye opener for me as much as our members. I know this is something my members need to be aware of but the information shared by Assign-IT was fascinating. As we hold all our member’s details on our servers, I knew we needed to do more to protect our information and demonstrate to our members that we are taking this issue seriously. Speaking to David, we identified that Cyber Essentials would be the right certification for our organisation’.

Assign-IT continues to see substantial growth in the number of businesses wanting to enhance their IT security, build employee awareness and achieve certification. Both Cyber Essentials and IASME (Information Assurance for Small & Medium-sized Enterprises) are perfect schemes for the SME market; giving organisations a viable route to help protect them that is cost effective, proactive and manageable.

David explains,

‘Cyber Essentials has been designed with the SME market in mind. It ensures the basic technical controls are in place to best protect any organisation. The St Albans Chamber of Commerce is a small organisation, but holds a lot of personal data. As such, the Cyber Essentials scheme was a perfect fit for Lisa and her team.’

Lisa concludes,

‘I feel better informed and in a stronger position to talk to our members about Cyber Essentials if they decide this is a route they want to take. I recommend it; with Assign-IT helping us through the process, it was a seamless experience; giving us great satisfaction and assurance when we achieved this security certification.’
